How I Help

ADHD Coaching That Works With Your Brain

ADHD coaching isn't about forcing yourself to become more disciplined or trying harder at things that haven't worked. We start by understanding how your ADHD actually shows up in your life, including where you get stuck, what throws you off, and why certain things seem much harder than they should.

From there, we work on the executive function skills that are getting in the way. That might mean procrastination, getting started, organization, time management, prioritizing, emotional regulation, or following through. Sometimes we'll create systems together. Other times, we'll change the way you're approaching something entirely.

The goal is to help you understand your brain well enough to know what works for you. Instead of constantly fighting against your ADHD, you learn how to work with it.

How It Works

The Methods I Use

Practical, evidence-informed strategies built around how your attention, motivation, and emotions actually operate.

01

Executive Function Skill Building

Executive function is the set of mental skills that let you start a task, hold a plan in mind, switch gears, and finish what you began. With ADHD, those skills tend to be inconsistent rather than absent, strong when something is interesting or urgent, and unreliable when it isn't. Instead of treating that as a character flaw, we treat it as a design problem, which is the heart of what ADHD coaching actually involves.

We look at where the breakdown actually happens: getting started, estimating how long something takes, keeping track of what's due, remembering the thing you decided while walking to another room. Then we build external structure that carries the load your working memory shouldn't have to, planning routines, capture systems, visible reminders, and task breakdowns small enough that starting stops feeling like a wall.

02

Motivation, Procrastination & Task Initiation

Most people with ADHD don't have a motivation problem in the general sense, they have an activation problem with specific kinds of tasks: boring ones, ambiguous ones, and ones with no immediate consequence. Understanding that distinction changes what we work on.

Rather than trying to want it more, we work on making starting mechanically easier and on shortening the gap between effort and payoff. That means shrinking tasks to a first physical step, building in accountability and time structure, using urgency deliberately instead of accidentally, and identifying the specific avoidance pattern, whether it's perfectionism, fear of doing it wrong, or the paralysis that comes from too many options.

03

Emotional Regulation & Rejection Sensitivity

ADHD isn't only about attention. Emotional intensity, frustration tolerance, and sensitivity to criticism or perceived rejection are part of the picture for many people, and they often cause more damage to relationships, school, and work than the focus difficulties do. We work on recognizing what's happening in the moment, the flood of frustration, shame, or defensiveness, and creating space between the feeling and the response.

Because ADHD and anxiety frequently occur together, the CBT and exposure-based tools I use when coaching anxiety often carry over here: challenging the harsh internal narrative, tolerating discomfort rather than escaping it, and rebuilding confidence that's been worn down by years of falling short of your own expectations.

04

Lifestyle, Routines & Whole-Person Strategy

Focus doesn't exist in isolation. Sleep, exercise, food, screens, medication timing, and how the day is structured all change how much attention you actually have available. My background in pharmacology means we can have informed conversations about how medication, caffeine, supplements, and other substances may be affecting energy, sleep, and concentration, alongside the behavioral work.

Rather than assuming one change fixes everything, we look at the whole picture and find the few adjustments that produce real leverage in your life, then build routines that are realistic enough to survive a bad week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about ADHD coaching.

How is ADHD coaching different from tutoring or academic coaching?

No. I'm not reviewing assignments, teaching subject material, or managing someone's schoolwork. We work on the patterns underneath those struggles: understanding how your brain works, getting started, managing time and overwhelm, following through, and building systems that work for you. For students, better organization and school performance may be part of the result, but the larger goal is developing skills and strategies they can use more independently over time.

What if I think I have undiagnosed ADHD?

You don't need a formal diagnosis to start coaching. Many clients come to me suspecting they have ADHD, often after years of feeling like they were just 'bad at' organization or follow-through, and we build strategies based on how you actually function, whether or not you pursue a clinical diagnosis alongside it.

How is ADHD coaching different from ADHD therapy?

ADHD therapy often addresses underlying emotional or psychological factors and may involve a formal treatment plan with a licensed clinician. ADHD coaching is more hands-on and present-focused, we build the specific systems, habits, and executive function tools you need day-to-day. The two aren't mutually exclusive, and many clients benefit from both.

Do you work with people who take ADHD medication?

Yes. Medication is a decision between you and your prescriber, and coaching works alongside it either way. My background in pharmacology means I can have informed conversations about how medication, sleep, caffeine, and supplements may be affecting focus and energy, and we build skills that hold up on the days medication isn't doing all the work.

How long does ADHD coaching usually take?

Some clients start noticing changes early on, often in one specific area like getting started on tasks or getting out the door on time. Building systems that hold up under stress usually takes consistent work over a few months. There's no fixed package, we reassess as things change and you decide how long to continue.

What actually happens in a session?

Sessions are conversational and practical. We look at what happened since last time, what worked and what fell apart, and troubleshoot the specific points where things broke down. From there we adjust the plan and set a small number of concrete things to try before the next session, so progress comes from real weeks in your life rather than theory.

Is ADHD coaching done online?

Yes. Most coaching happens online by video, which makes scheduling far easier for students and working adults and removes the commute that often becomes the reason sessions get skipped. Clients work with me from anywhere, and in-person appointments are also available at my office locations. Between sessions we can stay in touch by message when something needs quick troubleshooting.
