FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about this coaching.

How is ADHD coaching different from tutoring for a student who's already high-achieving?

Tutoring helps with specific subject material. Coaching addresses the executive function skills underneath all of it, planning, prioritizing, starting, and following through, so progress carries across every class, not just one subject. For a student who already understands the material, that underlying system is usually the real gap.

Can someone be gifted and struggle with executive function at the same time?

Absolutely, it's more common than people expect. Being bright and being organized are two different skill sets. A gifted student can grasp complex ideas instantly and still struggle to start assignments, manage time, or follow through, which is exactly where coaching focuses.

What does coaching look like for a student who's succeeding but burning out?

We look at what the success is currently costing, all-nighters, last-minute scrambles, and running on adrenaline, and build systems that make the workload sustainable. The goal is to keep the performance without the crash that usually follows years of white-knuckling it.

Do you work with students managing ADHD without medication?

Yes. Some clients are on medication, some aren't, and some are managing symptoms without a formal diagnosis at all. Coaching works with what's actually showing up day to day, and any medication decisions stay between the student and their prescriber.

How is this different from general academic coaching?

General academic coaching tends to focus on study skills and grades. ADHD coaching goes underneath that to the executive function and emotional-regulation side, the starting, planning, and follow-through, using strategies built for how an ADHD brain actually works rather than a neurotypical baseline.

What's a realistic first goal to work toward?

Usually something small and concrete, a reliable routine for starting assignments, a system for tracking deadlines, or a way to break big projects into steps. Early wins build the momentum and self-trust that bigger changes depend on.
