How I Help

Building the Systems Underneath the Schoolwork

Executive function coaching that goes deeper than any single subject, so progress carries across every class.

01

Bright, Capable, and Still Falling Behind

If your son is smart enough to get it but can't seem to consistently turn it in, you already know tutoring isn't the fix. The gap usually isn't understanding, it's planning, time management, emotional regulation, and follow-through. That's what we work on directly, so the systems that make schoolwork (and everything else) manageable actually stick.

02

In Our Work Together, He'll Learn How To

  • Break Down the Overwhelming , Turn big assignments and long-term projects into steps he can actually start.

  • Build Systems That Fit His Brain , Routines designed around how he actually works, not a generic planner he'll abandon in two weeks.

  • Manage the Emotional Side , Handle frustration, shutdown, and the sting of falling behind without it spiraling into avoidance.

  • Own the Process , Build the kind of self-trust and accountability that holds up once a parent isn't reminding him.

03

Why This Is Different

A tutor helps with a specific subject. Coaching addresses the executive function skills underneath all of it, planning, prioritizing, starting, and following through, so progress carries over into every class, not just the one he's being tutored in. It's also collaborative, not corrective: he's a partner in building the plan, not someone being managed.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common questions about this coaching.

How is an ADHD coach for high school boys different from a tutor?

A tutor helps with specific subject material. I focus on the executive function skills underneath the schoolwork, planning, time management, emotional regulation, and follow-through, so the systems that make schoolwork (and everything else) manageable actually stick, rather than re-teaching content he already understands.

My son doesn't think he needs help, will coaching still work?

It's common for teens to feel like coaching is being done to them rather than with them. I spend real time early on building trust and making sure he has a say in the goals we're working toward. Coaching works best when it feels like his plan, not a parent's plan enforced by someone new.

Do you work directly with my son, or with us as parents too?

The coaching relationship is primarily with your son, that's where the trust and accountability need to live. I'll loop parents in on general progress and structure, but session content stays between us so he can be honest about what's actually going on.

What does a typical session look like?

Sessions are conversational and practical. We review what worked and what didn't since last time, troubleshoot a specific obstacle, a project, a routine, a recurring conflict, and leave with one or two concrete adjustments to try before we meet again.

Is this only for boys who are formally diagnosed with ADHD?

No. Some clients have a diagnosis, some are managing symptoms without one, and some are dealing with executive function struggles that look a lot like ADHD regardless of label. We work with what's actually showing up, not just a diagnosis on paper.

How long before we see a difference?

Most families notice small shifts, fewer missed assignments, less friction around homework time, within the first several weeks. Bigger changes, like him managing his own systems without reminders, take longer and depend on consistency between sessions.
